Nuvaring is a combined hormone contraceptive device placed in the vagina. Like a birth control "patch", it is used for three weeks followed by a week of rest. Nuvaring is sold by the company, Organon, which was recently bought by the large drug company, Schering-Plough. Because of the type of drugs used in this product, there is a significant risk of stroke, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
